What is Counselling?

There are many reasons people may come to Counselling.  None of us are immune from facing challenges, difficulties or distress in our lives.  Research consistently indicates that seeking professional support can make life’s problems more manageable.

I offer a respectful, non-judgmental, confidential space for you to safely explore whatever is causing you difficulty or feels overwhelming.  This can feel very different to talking to friends or family.  To be listened to and heard with acceptance and understanding, by a skilled professional, can support you to explore and find ways of coping with challenging emotions, relationships, circumstances or life events you are experiencing.

My approach to Counselling is Humanistic Integrative.  This means I believe in your capacity to bring about the changes you wish to make and I make use of interventions from a rich range of therapies, appropriate to your unique needs.   Central to this I will work with you to create a relationship between us, where you feel safe to share whatever you need to, and to deepen both of our understanding of your individual experience.  Together we can look at the choices you have in relation to the changes you want to make.  I hope that through Therapy you will gain a clearer understanding or yourself, your relationships with others, or the troubles you are experiencing so you can make choices which lead to a happier, more meaningful and fulfilling life.

“I am stronger for these sessions.  Hopefully I shall cope better in the future.  I shall always be grateful for your support and the caring and empathetic approach you showed towards me.”

“Counselling has given me a fresh outlook on life; it has given me the tools and strength to no longer live in the past but to use my experiences from the past to shape my future.”
