EMDR Therapy - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
EMDR Therapy can help us process and recover from a range of experiences that impact on our well-being and daily functioning. it is most widely known for its efficacy in healing from trauma and is endorsed by NICE (the National Institute for Health Care Excellence) and the World Health Organisation as a recommended therapy for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EMDR is a highly effective way of supporting people to process a range of distressing experiences, including anxiety, panic attacks, adverse childhood experiences, relationship issues, phobias, car accidents, birth trauma and grief. It is a way of accessing our brain's natural healing capacity.

Including EMDR in our therapy will involve working together in a specific and structured way. We will recall specific memories and at the same time use eye movements, and sometimes tapping, light or sounds, to support your brain to process emotions, body sensations, thought patterns and beliefs which may feel 'stuck'. Over the course of our therapy EMDR will support you to change your relationship with the distressing experiences and to reprocess this so as to reduce its impact on your day to day life. Previous clients experiencing EMDR have reported feeling 'lighter' or like the traumatic memory is 'more distant and less troublesome' and report noticing a significant decrease in symptoms such as disturbed sleep, nightmares, negative thoughts and flashbacks which were previously impacting on every day life. I will be alongside you through this process and hope that together we will find a way of reaching new perspectives and for your distress to be reduced.
